Day of the Serpent

In a daytrip from Cancun or the Riviera Maya you can experience the unkown and travel back in time to the days of the Mayan. In the middle of the lush jungle after passing through a narrow footpath in Chichen Itza, the most spectacular view strikes your eyes. The site of the El Castillo de Kukulcan, the Pyramid of the Feathered Serpent, UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the "New 7 Wonders of the World" - all these are for Chichen Itza!

History
The ancient Chichen Itza city was built "at the mouth of the well" as the name indicates. During its 1000 years of history, different tribes left their marks on the settlement. The fusion of different Mesoamerican styles like the Puuc, the Toltec and Mixtecan indicate that it was a cosmopolitan city with very exciting, colourful and unique features in the Yucatan Peninsula. Chichen Itza is a must-see destination especially during the time of the Equinox.

Equinox
During the vernal equinox (March 20th, 21st) and the autumnal (September 21st) the purpose of the Pyramid of the Feathered Serpent is revealed. The "Feathered Serpent" descends in a glory of shadow and light on the western ballustrade of the pyramid's main stairway. 7 triangles of sunlight form its body that creeps down 37 yards/ 34 mts to join the huge serpent head carved in stone at the bottom of the stairway. It signals the most auspicious time to plant the essential and most revered food of the Maya; corn. This event is the most dramatic display of Mayan astronomical knowledge encoded into architecture.

You too can meet the Feathered Serpent
Although the Mayas of old are not with us anymore to perform their rituals live you can still break their codes and witness with us this magical, astronomical and mystical event on the day of the Serpent, the Equinox March 20th,2011. 7 tips to feel yourself at the maximum while swimming with dolphins

Swimming with dolphins is such an amazing and once-in-a-lifetime experience that if you have a chance to realize it, these tips will help you to be well-prepared.

1) Before you book your swim with dolphin program, be sure you have selected the one you really wish to do. There are several different programs from what you can choose to contact and interact with the most intelligent and cutest creatures of the Seas.
The basic Dolphin Encounter Swim is the best step to start with, you can get to know details about the dolphins by the experienced personal, and you can touch them and swim with dolphins. Foot push - when the dolphins push you at your sole and practically they lift you out of the Sea - is included to the more advanced activities, where generally you can spend more real time swimming, snorkelling with dolphins. At this program, it is important that you feel yourself comfortable in the water.
Another unique and emotionally involving experience is to be part of some dolphin family moments, when the baby dolphin stays beside the Mom dolphin - and you can be there, as well! It is mostly playing time that you will always remember!
As you see, there are several different options; you just have to be sure to pick the ideal one for you.

2) With kids, the basic encounter programs are ideal - practically already one / one and a half year old kids enjoy a lot this program!
Kids are always welcome to the swim with dolphin activity, as it is the a huge step for them to meet, contact dolphins and so by the emotional touch they will be easily involved to understand the importance of protecting the nature - the flora and fauna! (We just have to remember... I bet, many of us wanted to be a dolphin trainer when he/she was a child...)

3) Be sure you wear a comfortable swimming suit, which fits you perfectly. This point can be interesting specially for women while doing footpush. Hooppss... several times has happened that an important part of the bikini has ended below the part of the body it is supposed to cover. (For the rest of the group you swim with, it is, of course, funny - mostly until the moment that it is the turn of the person who laughed most loudly at you, and the same happens to him / her...)

4) It is better if you are prepared that your muscles will work! Take it as the exercise of the day! Mostly, the activities to swim with dolphins are in the Sea. Although it is at a separated area, you will practically swim in the real Sea, where naturally streams, or sometimes even waves, are coming and going. Although, most of the time you are standing on the "pier", you might still need to use your arms and legs to stay stable.
In case if you are in a pool, you might be slightly lazier.
It is obligatory to wear lifejacket, so - as an advantage of the lifejacket - if you are tired, you can just float and relax your muscles for a while.

5) If you booked a swim with dolphin program, time is an important factor to deal with! It is essential on your side to be at the indicated place latest at the indicated hour, but it is better to be there at least half an hour earlier. It also gives you a chance to see other groups, so you will have an idea what will happen while you will be beside the cute dolphins! You need time to change, to find out the group schedules and to listen carefully the instructions.
In case you are late, you might have the chance to miss this activity (and say goodbye for your money), since timetables are very strict and, usually, as there is a high interest for dolphin programs, groups are already completed in reservation.
Better, this time, if you don't trust in the famous regular Mexican "punctuality" (arriving an hour late is still OK :-).

6) While swimming with dolphins, just concentrate on the dolphins! Do not let your attention taken away by any other factor, like a ship passing by in the Sea close to the area you are, or what other groups do simultaneously next to you. Time passes so fast, while you are enjoying this activity that simply better don't waste your time, enjoy the moments with the dolphins! Later, as a memory, photos or dvd might be there for you to live again this unique experience and the high emotions.

7) Be prepared that most likely you will not be able to resist to buy a photo or a dvd about your unforgettable experience. The kiss, the hug of a dolphin or when your hands are up in the air at the footpush are unique moments, when the smile on your face is the most beautiful, as it comes from your heart. How could you miss not to take it as a memory? Professional camera and cameramen are there to catch these great moments, as well-trained paparazzi.
Obviously, all has an additional cost, but, will you have to evaluate the price vs. value deal, as it will always remind you a moment of this really unique experience.

Ok, now, you are ready to SWIM WITH DOLPHINS!!! In case you pass by the Mexican Caribbean, we have attracting offers to select from and where you can reserve online immediately:

Long Trip to Cancun

Travelling long distances can actually be kind of fun; lots of us think a lot on how boring and tiresome can a transatlantic flight could be before even have taken it. Actually, many people don’t even bother to plan such a trip, they rather choose some domestic or a relatively short flight for their vacations. But believe me, it only can be boring if You want it to be like that.

I just came to Cancun for a few weeks ;) from Europe, my trip started at Hungary, I live in the capital city of Budapest, and because there is no direct flight to Mexico (yet) I have to choose from other european cities for stopover, so, I had the opportunity to travel through Zurich with Swiss Airlines, this was a short flight, about 1 hour and 45 minutes, very comfortable with great service by the flight attendants, lunch was decent, fresh and clean, but what I liked the most was dessert, they gave us Movenpick ice cream, it was delicious!

Once we arrived, I didn´t have to worry about my luggage, I just made sure it was there, ready for the next plane, because I booked my luggage to be sent straight to Cancun, so after cheking that out with the right person, I went to get some info of the city and how to get there. I had plenty of time, as my next flight was for the next day, at midday. The weather was perfect for a walk to Zurich’s downtown streets; just 20 minutes by tram, and there I was, surrounded by lots of brand boutiques, small streets just for pedestrians, lots of locals and other tourists walking back and forth; actually, the streets looked busy for a 6 pm weekday and almost all stores and restaurants were opened, so I made some shopping and had dinner too.

Back at the airport, I found out where to spend the night; since I know I can’t sleep on airplanes, the best thing to do is to get some proper rest, so I headed to the info boot and asked for the Dayrooms, fortunatelly, they had available single rooms, so I reserved 1. It had a comfortable single bed, air conditioned, cable tv and a sink, also a big window facing an area of the airport, which is on current construction; so since the view wasn’t the most pleasant I just closed the curtain, and made myself comfortable watching Yes Man with Jim Carrey... Next morning the alarm rang at 7:30 as I asked the reception lady to do so, but I was already awake and returning from the shower. So before 9 am I was already heading to the gate to catch the railway that took me to the other side of the airport which looked brand new. Made some shopping and had breakfast while waiting for the next boarding at 11:45 am.

Once on the plane heading for America, I just had to think that in a few hours I would be in Cancun enjoying the beach. So I made myself comfortable, relaxed with some movies, plus, the service and the meals were good and also had a delicious dessert. The plane made a stop at Varadero, Cuba, but it was a quickie, some passengers got off and others on, and then departed to Cancun, - just 1 hour left and I’ll be there! - I said to myself.

Oasis of the Seas

Waaa!!! This is the first thing what I would tell in the moment when I saw the grandest, biggest, hugest luxury cruiser of these days. The selection of the name is perfect: Oasis of the Seas... it actually is... a huge Oasis. Or shall we say a travelling island with numerous personal onboard?

OK, do you want to know some rapid facts on Oasis of the Seas by Royal Caribbean International?

- Brings a new Neighborhood concept of seven different themed areas, like Central Park, Royal Promenade, Vitality at Sea Spa and Fittness Center, Youth Zone, Entertainment etc.
- Just to have an idea of the sizes: the revolutionary design of Central Park theme (one out of 7 themes) was placed at the center of the cruise ship that opens to the sky and its length is more than a football field! It is 19 mts wide and 100 mts long, included 334 staterooms. By the way, here you can feel yourself as in NYC: elegant, peaceful atmosphere, at the evening you can enjoy street performances. The most exclusive dining venue with leading-edge cuisine on Oasis of the Seas is placed here, called 150 Central Park.
- She has a Zipline of 25 mts suspended 9 decks above Boardwalk.
- Oasis of the Seas has seven godmothers: Gloria Estefan, Michelle Kwan, Jane Seymore, Dara Torres, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Shawn Johnson and Daisy Fuentes. I am absolutely sure, you know all seven godmothers! Their task will be to support the foundation which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
- First guest landed in Central Park area (according to Richard D. Fain, Chairman & CEO Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.) was... a butterfly :)

Underwater Museum in Cancun

Cancun seems to be in constant development in 2010.
This year has brought many many new things that definitely help us take the final
decision that it is a must-do activity to return to this popular Caribbean destination.

The beach recovery has left Cancun beaches with spectacular, long sandy beaches! Perfect place to take a breath, and sit down - playing with the new brightly white sand in our hands,to wonder the amazing turquoise Ocean view, and don't think of any common stressful thought, just simply sit and enjoy the sound of waves passing by.

Ok, but after you have recharged your energies, you feel like you need something
really special! Here we are! An Underwater museum with underwater sculptures!
Another new and unique monument in Cancun! Actually, the largest underwater museum in our World! A magical area between Cancun and the island in front of Cancun, called Isla Mujeres (half an hour on ferry to cross) will be the home place of this museum, within the Marine Natural Park.

You have to submerge to the depth of 3 to 6 meters in the Caribbean Sea to see the pieces exposed, approximately 400 sculptures!!! The artist is a recognized British sculptor, Jason de Caires Taylor. The theme of the sculptures will vary; there will be local Mayan theme pieces, and other moments of our everyday life. One sculpture that is called the “Dream Catcher” cannot wait YOUR message! Yes, yes, YOUR message! Since you can put in a bottle your message and leave it there attached to this sculpture! The first message belongs to Lic. Roberto Diaz Abraham, the President of the Underwater Museum, tells: “May our hearts, never become as hard as our heads”.

Beside to be a new attraction at this well-known tourist destination, another very important point of the underwater museum is that it is a real Green, eco-project with the aim to create more coral reefs and conserve the existing ones. The coral reefs help the ecosystem to restore the bigger and bigger damages of the global warming that is why it has such a big importance.

By now, the next step is to sink about 250 sculptures by April 2010. All of us cannot wait to hear more news about this unique Underwater museum!
