Carnival in Cozumel

The streets are already showing the Carnival atmosphere with decoration all across the main avenue of the island, and this is no surprise, since before the Easter days start, Cozumel’s locals are beginning to prepare all the details of what it has become one of the most important celebrations of the island. This date, famous all over Mexico, is a tradition inherited from generation to generation where Cozumel transforms its characteristic turquoise blue surroundings into a wide range of colourful atmosphere.



Friendly to everyone, either you are a local or a visitor; you will be able to experience the effervescence of this festivity. Enjoy the music throughout the entire island; there will be concerts all the time of salsa, cumbia and Caribbean hits, giving real hot flavour to this event. The traditional Cozumel cuisine (which consists mainly in fish and seafood) will also be available every day until late night at the stands, where you will also have the opportunity to taste some of the local Yucatan dishes, such as the papatzules (corn tortilla filled with chopped boiled egg topped with pumpkin seed salsa and tomato salsa – slightly spicy) and sweets like dulce de papaya (sweet papaya with caramel) or flan Napolitano while you are seated comfortably in any of the benches that will be installed in strategic points of the carnival venue.

The Carnival opens with the coronation of the king and queen on February 10th and lasts until the 17th .During this 7 days you will be able to feast your eyes with the vibrating and multicolour floats, accompanied by the continuously smiling faces of the participants, all dressed up with their shiny costumes, which they have been preparing for a whole year. Throughout this entire week of celebration that gathers a mixture of modern dance and old customs of the folkloric Yucatan culture and tropical vibrancy, all participants, performers and spectators, will live a unique party that will leave their souls invigorated.
